I contacted a 67-year-old man who had an ischemic stroke (2022-04-12 - 2022-04-22, discharged from the neurology department to his home). They found him while searching for a rehabilitation option, and then, with the help of an interpreter (since they don't speak our language), they contacted STROKE NEURO REHAB.
In May 2022, for the first time, we communicated with the help of an interpreter. GM was lying in bed, and there we started the exercises after assessing his condition. I showed him all the exercises, and he imitated them, I explained to the interpreter what and why we were doing them, what he would and should feel, how he would develop his movement, and that this had to be practiced daily until the next session. The family strictly adhered to this.
Learned to sit up on the edge of the bed independentlyand then transfer to the wheelchair.
After many, many specific, interconnected sets of exercises, strengthening, stretching, developing a sense of balance, mobilization, symmetrical and asymmetrical exercises (and of course after practicing at least 2 hours a day), stood up holding on to the terrace railing. This was a huge success for him!
Learned, three-legged walk safely with a stick, for now in the short term.
We regularly worked not only on the lower but also the upper limbs, which had results, because on the seventh time the thumb and index finger moved! The use of therapeutic clay and other special, personalized tools was indispensable on a daily basis.
Learned Using the ARNI technique, get down from a chair to the floor without help and sit back down.
We are writing the end of June, It's been 2 months since he was discharged from the hospital: he's walking for short periods of time, without a cane!
Necessary:
We are constantly working to make them better and more independent, but this requires perseverance, diligence, immense will, faith in success on the part of the person concerned, and a supportive attitude on the part of the relative/s!
For me, it's positivity, creating a stimulating atmosphere, professional dedication, preparation. I believe that sometimes humor and cheerfulness are needed to make the time spent together an experience for all of us.
